Early Planning Gets the Best Dates!!!

February 23, 2010

Hello everyone, old man winter still has his grip on us at this writing, with the chance of snow in the forecast for the third time this winter (what did you expect...the Saints won the Super Bowl).  Despite the chilly air and excessive rainfall this winter, fishing conditions have remained fairly stable through the winter with the exception of some dirty water for a few weeks.  Fishing has been outstanding for redfish over the winter and great catches of reds are being made on most every trip, but the trout have been getting a break for the most part unless we have calm conditions.  Big catches of trout are still a couple of weeks away as the winter weather should be letting up and warming in the next few weeks.  Once the water temps rise into the upper 60s to near 70 degrees, the trout will turn it on.  Fair weather days in the next few weeks will produce fantastic catches of a nice mixed bag of trout, reds and flounder.  Poorer weather will result in fewer trout, but great catches of reds and flounder.  So when you are ready to get oout of the house, there are plenty of fish to catch.

We are looking forward to another great season on Calcasieu Lake.  April is just around the corner and we should start seeing some trophy sized sow specks on a regular basis for the next three months.  Topwater action, while not at a fever pitch just yet, is right around the corner and will erupt with a few more degrees added to the water temperature.  Fishing will continue to improve along with the weather as we draw closer to summer, but now is a great time to fish as the crowds are still light and the fish are plentiful already.

For those of you wanting to enjoy some great fishing, excellent food and a fun, family friendly lodge atmosphere, we are the answer.  Whether you are entertaining clients, gathering with friends or getting the family together for that once a year fling, get on the phone now, the fish are biting and the season looks very promising.  Now is the time to make some reservations and get your crew down to Calcasieu Charters for a good time you won't soon forget.  If you have to plan for a large group and weekends are a must then you should be getting them together right now, don't miss out.

For fishing, our 240 LTS Triton Boats with 225 HP Mercury Optimax motors are pure fishing machines.  They easily and safely get you to the fish and back in all conditions.  We provide excellent fishing equipment, both casting and spinning gear, just in case you don't have your own or don't want the hassle of lugging it along.  Our staff of experienced, personable and hard working guides enjoy their jobs and do their best to put your group on fish, whether you're a novice or avid fisherman you will enjoy their efforts to put YOU on the fish.  Our lodging facilty is also a convenient asset and is available for our excellent full service packages or do it yourself groups up to 20 persons.

Book early for preferred dates!!!
